NASAGA Wants (and Needs) You!

The year was 2014, and the city was Baltimore – my first NASAGA. After a whirlwind three days of learning, presenting, and gaming, I wondered, How do I stay involved with this great group?

The call came a few years later, when I was asked to serve on the NASAGA Board. Since then, I’ve made closer, more enduring friendships, learned a lot from the NASAGA network, and, I hope, made a difference.

Any NASAGAn who wants to see NASAGA continue and thrive can get involved! Volunteers are the life-blood of NASAGA — it takes much more than the dues you pay to keep our communications and conference going.

Are YOU ready to make a difference? We are now seeking these volunteers for 2024:

  • Board members: The specific positions on the Board vary - we do our best to match the skills of board members to organizational needs. The primary qualification of a board member is the willingness to make a long-term commitment to the organization. Board members serve for three years, attend monthly online meetings, and should make every effort to attend the annual conference.

  • Conference co-chairs: Plan NASAGA 2024 or even 2025, and see your ideas come to life during our signature event of each year! If you volunteer soon for this role, you canhelp select conference sites. Duties are as follows, and can be split as co-chairs see fit:

    • Programming

    • Communications

    • Local Outreach & Sponsorships

    • Event Planning

    • Finance

  • Finance: Assist our Treasurer in 2024 and train to take the Treasurer’s Board position in 2025. Ideally, we would like someone with a financial background, but the primary needs for this role are attention to detail and persistent management of funds.

  • Communications: An international organization like ours is heavily dependent on communications - there is always something to do! Communications team members write and edit all of the following: blog posts and podcasts, outside content curation, email communications, conference promotions, and social media posts.

  • Web site and technology: Maybe you’re not a “people person”, but you’ve got tech skills? We need you! Our tech team handles Squarespace (our website host) setup, Google admin, YouTube presentation, and other digital accounts.

All of the above are current initiatives. If you have new ideas for membership support, mid-year events, outreach to schools, partnering with other organizations, corporate sponsorships, or anything else, all NASAGA members can benefit from your initiative! To express interest in a position or ask questions, please email Veronica Brown, 2023 NASAGA Chair. There’s space at the NASAGA table for you!

Veronica Brown is an instructional designer at Unity Technologies and the current chair of the NASAGA Board.
