NASAGA 2024 “Fair Play” Preview

As we look ahead to NASAGA 2024, we sat down with Lisa Heller Boragine, NASAGA 2024 Conference Chair.

We saw the Save the Date for NASAGA 2024 for October 16-19th - hooray! Any news you want to break (or tease) about the conference?

We have a theme! It's “Fair Play.” We are hoping to address concepts of fairness in games. Questions to consider might include: what it means to have a fair playing field, the connection between games and sports, and when it’s ok to break the rules.

What made you decide to take on the responsibility for coordinating NASAGA 2024?

Every NASAGA conference is special, and I've enjoyed each of the conferences I have attended. There is an art to a good conference, and I am excited to put together a creative, fun, and inclusive experience.

What were your big takeaways from earlier conferences that are shaping how you plan NASAGA 2024?

Some of the best NASAGA experiences happen when you give people space to create! I loved the game nights we had at St. Louis. I want to continue to provide more game nights and unstructured time for people to collaborate, while also capitalizing on what Atlanta has to offer.

What kind of things do you consider as you look for a NASAGA venue?

Somewhere that provides decent food and lodging at a reasonable cost, with adequate space for breakout sessions is key. It's also good to have a location that has accessible transportation and good dining options. We think our selection this year fits the bill!

What aspects or elements make NASAGA presentations truly great and worth attending?

The best sessions are interactive, fun, unpredictable and inclusive. The game or simulation should be involved enough to be stimulating but not so involved that we don't have time to debrief and talk about the experience. NASAGAns come with their own experiences and wisdom; the best sessions recognize that and include a space for participants to share their ideas.

Beyond submitting presentations when the window opens, what else can NASAGAns do to make sure the 2024 conference is the BEST EVER?

Be prepared to come to the whole conference, including the pre-conference on October 15!
